Where to send a notice
Write to copyright@leafyrics.com. It is an alias that reaches the maintainer rather than a personal mailbox, and it needs no account. Signed-in users can also file a request from inside the application; both doors feed one queue.
What a notice needs
A notice is not refused for form. If something is missing we will ask for it, and the only piece that actually stops us acting is which work you mean.
- The work — title and artist, enough to identify one recording
- Where it appears here, if you can point at it
- What right is held, and on what basis
- Who is claiming — a name and a reachable address
What happens, and when
A notice is acknowledged within three business days and acted on within seven days of arriving, or answered substantively in that time if it cannot be. Removal does not wait for the acknowledgement: a facially valid notice is acted on when it is read, and the correspondence travels separately.
What removal does
Removing a work deletes its original text, every translation, user corrections, timings and bookmarks, in every language, in one operation. The work is also suppressed, so it does not come back under the same name or under any name it was previously known by. The record of the request outlives what it removed.
If you think a removal was wrong
Reply to the same address and say why. The reply is recorded against the original request. Nothing is restored automatically: this service has no way to weigh competing claims, so restoration is a decision rather than an entitlement.
Repeat infringement
Three attributable removals suspend an account. A removal is attributable only where the text taken down came from that account — lyrics it submitted, or a translation a person wrote there. Most removals are attributable to nobody, because most lyrics here arrive from a third-party service rather than from a contributor.
- A removal is charged in the same operation that performs it, and the account is told immediately.
- Supplying both the lyrics and their translation for one work counts once.
- A timing edit, a single corrected line, or a submission that was never accepted is not charged.
- A charge can be withdrawn, with a reason, and then stops counting. Withdrawing it does not by itself lift a suspension.
- Where a suspension follows, the removal that caused it is named in the same notice.
- What has been charged is listed in the application, under settings, and that list stays readable after an account is suspended.
